Trauma/Abuse: Finding Safety, Voice, and Healing

Abuse can take many forms—physical, emotional, sexual, or psychological—and often leaves deep, lasting effects. Whether it happened in childhood or adulthood, once or repeatedly, the impact of abuse can be complex and far-reaching. Survivors may experience feelings of shame, fear, guilt, confusion, or disconnection from themselves and others. These reactions are natural responses to unnatural experiences.

Emotional abuse may leave invisible scars through manipulation, control, or constant criticism, while physical abuse can instill fear and hypervigilance that affects your daily life. Sexual abuse, rape, and assault often bring a unique layer of trauma—violating one’s sense of bodily autonomy and safety. Survivors may struggle with flashbacks, dissociation, low self-worth, difficulties with intimacy, or the feeling of being "stuck" in the past.

In therapy, you are not asked to revisit painful memories before you feel safe to do so. We work gently and respectfully to build trust, stabilise the nervous system, and help you regain a sense of control. Trauma-informed therapy honours your pace and your choices. Together, we can explore what healing looks like for you—whether that means processing past experiences, rebuilding boundaries, or learning to feel safe in your own body again.

No form of abuse is ever your fault.
Whatever your story, you deserve to be heard, believed, and supported in a space that is free of judgment and full of compassion. Healing is not about forgetting—it’s about reclaiming your power, your voice, and your life.
